Gift List Central
About GLCThe concept of an online gift list is nothing new, they've been around for years. Indeed, both Matthew and Phill (creators of GLC) set up gift lists with various shops for their respective weddings, but both (quite separately) found the whole process to be significantly less than convenient. Each individual system was fine, and did the job nicely, but it was still limited to what that particular shop had in stock at the time. That's no good if you want a set of cutlery from one shop and a particular condiments rack from another. That means setting up and managing two lists, and persuading your guests to look on both. Not good.
So it was that both Matthew and Phill decided it would be much better to have one central list where items from multiple shops could be added. Imagine our surprise when we discovered we'd both thought the same thing! Even more so when we realised that no one else had done it yet. A little planning and exploration later, and GLC was borne.
Codenamed "Skudoosh", GLC has been developed using the fantastic Code Igniter framework, harnessing the power of PHP and MySQL, and with Phill's programming prowess and Matthew's eye for design the project has enjoyed rapid but well-thought-out progress. We have plenty more ideas to come, too, so watch this space for yet more extras and goodies to make your gift list experience even more special!

Phill graduated from the University of Essex with a degree in lazing around being a trained monkey Computer Science (all the same thing really), and now works for a company in deepest, darkest Essex (well, Chelmsford) doing Java and J2EE Development. He maintains a J2EE Blog, as well as a personal site. When he's not talking about himself in the third person he enjoys playing his guitar and piano (not at the same time), watching DVDs, doing 'Churchy' stuff, and spending time with friends. Occasionally some of these activities are combined!

Matthew also graduated from the University of Essex with a degree in Computer Science, and is now a self-employed web designer specialising in creating web sites for churches and Christian organisations. When he's not getting creative on his Apple Mac he enjoys playing various musical instruments and tinkering with his car.
